Sam Braband-Outdoor Recreation Manager
Sam got his first taste of Alaska in 2007 while on a student exchange at at the University of Alaska Southeast. It was then that he realized Alaska was the place for him. After a brief stint back down south he ended up here in Fairbanks managing the climbing facilities for the Department of Recreation Adventure and Wellness (DRAW). He currently is the Outdoor Recreation Coordinator overseeing the Outdoor Adventures program with DRAW, and is teaching various courses for the university including wilderness leadership and rock climbing and ice climbing. Sam’s favorite things are hanging out with his wife and two kids, climbing and thinking about climbing.

Frank Olive - Assistant Coordinator
Frank has been Assistant Coordinator of Outdoor Adventures since January 2010. He is a twenty year Alaska resident who has had many great adventures all over the interior. Climbing and skiing are his passion, and through these passions he has also explored many of the mountains of Alaska. Riding his bicycle beautiful places around the world has been a big part of his life too. He is the instructor for Intro to Mountaineering, Beginning Rock Climbing, Intro to Winter Camping, Intro to Arctic backpacking, and Intro to Expedition Kayaking courses at UAF. His kids take up all his time that is not spent instructing or in the Mountains. Frank loves sharing his knowledge and passion for the wild places of Alaska with the students of UAF.

Adam McComb - Student Assistant
Adam began working with Outdoor Adventures in 2012. He is currently studying Geology. Adam is enthusiastic about everything outdoors and has experence in rock climbing, biking, skiing, backpacking, rafting and kayaking. Any day he spends in the wilderness, with a good challenge, is a great day for him.

Michelle Klaben - Student Assistant
A communications major hailing from the Kenai Peninsula, Michelle began employment with Outdoor Adventures in the Fall of 2011. She is an avid Nordic Skiier and loves Alaskan winters, even here in Fairbanks. Michelle likes to get off campus and outside whenever she can be it biking, hiking, or skiing.

Patrick Karr - Student Assistant
Patrick has been with Outdoor Adventures since Spring of 2013. He is an Outdoor Recreation and Leadership Major who loves anything to do with the outdoors. His interests include any kind of skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, and especially backpacking. He has logged many miles on the trails and ski areas of Washington State and Colorado as well as Alberta and British Columbia in Canada. Patrick is originally from the east coast (Pennsyvania and Virginia) and most recently spent several years living in the Seattle area before moving to Fairbanks to attend UAF and become a part of the fantastic team at OA.
Ethan the Adventure Duck
A lonely and wayward rubber duckie, Ethan was rescued by OA staff on the upper Chena River when they found him bobbing forlornely amongst the branches of a log jam. Freed from his watery prison, Ethan (he came with that name) is now enjoying all the great adventures that Alaska has to offer. He enjoys participating on Outdoor Adventures trips, and you can follow some of his adventures on the Outdoor Adventures Blog.
