Getting started

  1. Apply online, and pay the application fee. Please see below for additional details about applying as a new or returning UA student.
  2. Order official transcripts from your current school and any previous colleges or universities you’ve attended. Send these to UAF. NOTE: If you’ve completed at least 30 semester credits (45 quarter credits), all we need is your application for admission and college transcript(s). If you’ve completed less than 30 credits, please send us your official high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores in addition to your college transcripts.

If you’re applying for a bachelor’s program, you will have to complete the UAF baccalaureate core (general education) requirements to earn your degree. To find out how your transfer courses may substitute for UAF core classes please refer to the table of substitutions for non-UA institutions.

Students who've attended a UA campus before (UAA or UAS)

Follow the instructions on how to apply as a returning student.

If you're planning to transfer to UAF from UAA or UAS, the general education requirements for your baccalaureate degree are transferable; the requirements you completed at one UA institution fulfill the same categories at all other UA institutions. If you have completed your general education requirements at UAA or UAS, you have fulfilled all requirements of the UAF baccalaureate core. If you have taken some of the general education requirements at UAA or UAS (but not all), refer to the table of substitutions for intra-UA transfers.

Transfer policies

Review the policies surrounding transfer of credit to UAF.

GPAs from other colleges or universities, including UAA and UAS, are not computed in your UAF GPA; however, they are used when determining your eligibility for honors at the time of graduation.

Transfer students who have earned an associate of arts or associate of science degree from a regionally accredited institution will have their lower-division core requirements waived at UAF. Students who have earned a baccalaureate degree or completed general education requirements at a four-year, regionally accredited institution will have their core requirements waived.

Transfer credit details

Transfer credit is credit that has been earned from other regionally accredited institutions, through military educational experiences or credit accepted by special approval. Where possible, transfer credit is equated with UAF courses.

UAF is on a semester calendar system. If you are transferring from a quarter system, your credits will be converted to semester credits. A quarter system credit is equivalent to two-thirds of a semester credit.

The transfer credit resource website is an unofficial reference for undergraduate students considering transferring to UAF. An official evaluation of transfer credits will be provided after you have formally applied and been admitted to a degree program at UAF. In the meantime, the transfer credit resource website can help you see how the course credits you bring with you may equate with specific course offerings at UAF.

  4. Select My Profile (at top of page) and complete this section.
  5. Select My Application (at top of page) and complete this section. A second major can be selected at the time of application.
  6. Complete the application to the point of agreement and pay the application fee (a credit card is required).
  7. Submit all of the required documentation to the Office of Admissions and the Registrar.
    • Current high school students will be able to upload their unofficial transcript at the time of application.
    • Graduate students will be able to upload documents that appear on their checklist.

Returning students:

Students who have attended the University of Alaska, but have not taken classes in the last two years. Or, current UAF students who are adding a degree program.
