Family Room

Be Curious

Our Family Room is a place for children and adults to be curious and feel at home. Collection-based touchable materials, toys, puzzles, and books encourage quiet investigation and intergenerational discovery time. The Family Room offers a low stress environment for adults to relax and all ages to explore.

Included with regular museum admission.
Open Daily.


HANDS-ON Programs

Discover & Create

Explore a different theme every month! During the school year, the Education Center opens its door to the public on the first Friday of the month and on Saturdays. Discover animals, plants, culture, and art through hands-on investigations and crafts. Free with museum admission. Adult supervision required. Siblings welcome. Programs will be available starting in early September.

Science, art and culture in your hands

Through October to May, connect with museum research and collections on our monthly themed Family Days. Explore science, art & culture through hands-on art & science activities, meet the experts, learn about UAF research and explore the museum collection differently.

Kids 14 & under are free for Family Day.

Special Exhibits

Special Programming for Special Exhibits

Special exhibits, designed and built by museum staff, explore a variety of subjects. Interactive elements make exhibits enjoyable for the whole family. Special programming around the exhibit themes are developed every year for families. See our special exhibits programming page for more info.

Museum Sleepover

Spend a night at the museum! Join us for after hours special activities and night time gallery explorations. Create, explore, and finally sleep amongst the exhibits. An evening snack and light breakfast is provided. Winter dates will be available in the Fall! More info on our sleepover page.

Fairbanks Children's Museum

Two Museums in One

The Fairbanks Children's Museum will be partnering with UAMN. From October 2013-April 2014, FCM exhibits will be open daily in our auditorium. Check their summer camp activities.
