Meet Our Team
Michelle Bartlett, Director
Arriving from Atlanta, Michelle has never been a fan of the cold weather, which is surprising since she has lived in Fairbanks for over 35 years. Originally trained as an Occupational Therapist, Michelle also holds a masters degree in Special Education. Unable to get a job in her field when she arrived in Fairbanks, Michelle went to work for the university in the Soc/Psych department as the coordinator of a child welfare training grant. Over the years, she held many administrative positions in the UA system before retiring and entering the private sector.
She came out of retirement and joined Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning (SSLL) in 2003. Under Michelle’s aegis, SSLL expanded its scope of work to include MAYmester, WINTERmester, free summer lectures, movies, and concert series. Financial assistance for students increased with the addition of tuition awards, scholarships, in-state tuition for all, and the Sweet Summer Deal. The popular Educational Cultural Tour program destinations have included Peru, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, Tanzania, China and Turkey.
Michelle has two grown children Micah and Erin, and is Nana to four wonderful grandchildren. Michelle enjoys scuba diving and is passionate about traveling the world.

Florie Wilcoxson, Associate Director
Florie Wilcoxson was born and raised in Fairbanks. She currently lives in the house her parents built where she grew up. After a ten-year sojourn to warmer climes which included completing a B.A. in Psychology, she returned to Fairbanks with husband David and three children in tow.
Florie has been with UAF Summer Sessions since 1991 and is still sane. In that time, summer programming has expanded to include more courses students need and multiple special events over the summer. The best parts of the job are when students report summer courses really help them or when the recipient of a tuition award says ‘Thanks’.
When not at work, Florie enjoys, camping, hiking, bicycling, long distance motorcycle trips with her husband, helping with music at church, and all aspects of life with her six grandchildren.
