This $1.4 million contract will support a training program and prevention activities in Yup’ik/Cup’ik communities of Southwest Alaska. It expands and supports the Elluam Tungiinun (Towards Wellness) prevention trial projects by increasing local capacity to deliver prevention services and research.

This funding supports the transfer of the prevention projects to the local communities through the creation of leadership positions responsible for the dissemination of the intervention to new communities. This funding also supports the implementation of the qasgiq (communal house) model in the new prevention trial sites. The qasgiq model represents a Yup'ik theory-driven intervention process that is based on traditional Yup'ik values and practices applied in a contemporary context.
