Small-Scale Modular Nuclear Power: An Option for Alaska?
Publication Number: PAR-00009
Author/Sponsor: Alaska Center for Energy and Power
The supply of reliable, affordable energy to small, often isolated communities in Alaska remains a challenge, and much of the current energy generation infrastructure in other communities is approaching the end of its design life. Small modular reactors (SMR) have been studied as a possible way of meeting Alaska's energy needs in the near future. This report provides basic information on this technology and looks at the conditions under which it could be applied in Alaska.
