United Way campaign

Rogers and Modrow

Over the years, UAF employees and students have generously contributed time, talent and dollars to the United Way of the Tanana Valley to support organizations that provide important services in the Fairbanks area. One third of Fairbanks community residents will need help from a United Way member agency in their lifetime. By supporting the United Way of the Tanana Valley, we can make sure help is there when it is needed.

The Community Action Fund is distributed among 21 United Way agencies. These organizations focus on education, income, health and crisis intervention. The Substance Abuse Fund supports projects and programs that offer preventive solutions to drug and alcohol abuse in our community. The UWTV motto is “Advancing the Common Good by Focusing on the Building Blocks for a Good Life.”

Sherry and I strongly support the United Way; every year we make a contribution. UAF’s United Way campaign shows Fairbanks that we are a part of the community: we give back, we inspire, we are engaged. I encourage every employee to give as generously as you can. You can direct your contribution to the Community Action Fund, the Substance Abuse Fund, or to any 501(c)(3) organization of your choice, which includes the UAF/UA Foundation. You decide where your contribution should go, and you can use payroll deduction to make it simple. Human Resources will be distributing the forms to all departments in the next two weeks.

Amanda Wall and Mike Earnest are co-chairs of UAF’s United Way fundraising efforts this year. Your department will be contacted to set up an agency presentation for your unit, or you can make arrangements with Mike (474-5879; wmearnest@alaska.edu) or Amanda (474-7552; aiwall@alaska.edu).

Thank you for all you do for UAF and for the Fairbanks community. United, we can make a difference!
P.S. Fill out a United Way pledge form, return it to UAF HR by Dec. 16 and you will be entered to win a prize, including tickets to Nanook hockey, basketball or volleyball games, or a UAF parking pass for one year! The drawing will be held on Dec. 20.
