New Summer hours, and trip openings!

Get your Alaska on with OA this Summer! Open till 7pm Mon & Fri for equipment rental and there is still room on many of our exciting line-up of Summer trips!

Starting in June we will be open till 7pm on Mondays and Fridays for equipment rentals to help you enjoy the long Summer days! We will be closeing at 5pm the rest of the week.

Learn a new skill and earn credits while adventuring in Alaska

Introduction to Arctic Backpacking RECR F193P T02- 1 Credit.  Field Fee- $450

In this class we will visit the beautiful wilderness of the Brooks Range for a week long backpacking trip.  Before the hike we will cover all the logistics necessary to make the trip possible including: food choice and preparation, gear choices, maps and transportation.  While on the hike we will cover route finding, navigation, bear safety, river crossing, leave no trace ethics and other skills required for hiking in the Arctic.

Introduction to Expedition Kayaking RECR F193P T03- 1Credit. Field Fee-$395
During this class we will spend a week floating Birch Creek in the heart of the White Mountains.  This 130 mile stretch of river will allow plenty of time to learn many different aspects of river kayaking including: paddle strokes, campsite selection, boat repair, water reading, rapid scouting, bear safety, leave no trace ethics and other techniques that will enhance your future rafting trips.  

Expedition Rock Climbing RECR F193P T01- 1 Credit. Field Fee-$300
In this course we will head to the Golden Canyon in the Yukon Territories.  The goal of this course is for students to build upon their rock climbing knowledge, and gain experience climbing outside. The granite walls of the Golden Canyon are an ideal place to develop the ability to sport lead outside.  We will also work to develop the fundamental concepts of placing removable rock protection (trad gear) and doing practice leads while placing trad gear in the rock.  Students will also learn crack climbing movement techniques such as hand jams and foot jams.

Kayaking: Whitewater: RECR F140Y T01- 1 Credit Field Fee - $254
An introduction to whitewater kayaking. Topics will include equipment selection, safety considerations and hazard assessment, introduction to group and river running, eddy turns, scouting, river running, ferrying, trip planning considerations.
