USPS Special Services

CERTIFIED MAIL: Certified mail provides a mailing receipt, and a record of delivery is kept at the recipient's post office. A return receipt can be purchased for an additional fee. This provides the sender with proof of delivery. Certified mail service is available for First-Class mail or Priority mail only.

INSURED MAIL: Insured mail allows protection for valuables. You can purchase insurance for your mail piece up to $5,000 in coverage. This service is available for Standard Mail, First-Class mail or Priority mail. In addition, international mail can be insured. For mail pieces insured for more than $50, a receipt of delivery is signed by the recipient and filed at the delivery post office. Do not insure your packages for more than their value. The amount of insurance coverage for loss will be the actual value, less depreciation. All claims should be handled through USPS and not UAF Mail Services. For international claims, call 1-800-222-1811.

RETURN RECEIPT: This is the sender's proof of delivery. A return receipt can be purchased for mail sent COD, Express, and Insured for more than $50, registered or certified. The return receipt shows who signed for the item and the date it was delivered.

REGISTERED MAIL: Registered mail provides the most secure service offered by USPS. This provides the sender with a mailing receipt and, upon request over the Internet, the date and time of delivery or attempted delivery. A record of mailing is maintained at the mailing Post Office. This service is available for First Class mail and Priority mail. Insurance is provided and is included in the fee for items valued over $25,000. This service may be combined with COD, Return Receipt, Delivery Confirmation, Restricted Delivery or Signature Confirmation. Envelopes must be sealed (no tape) and all seams on packages must be covered with brown paper tape. The receipt for Registered Mail must be filled out and attached.

SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION: This service provides the date and time of delivery or attempted delivery. A delivery record, including the recipient's signature, is maintained by the USPS and is available via fax or mail. Waiver of signature is an option. This is available for First Class mail parcels, Priority mail items, and Package Service parcels. This may be combined with COD, Insured mail, Registered mail or special handling. Restricted Delivery is available if purchased with insurance for more than $50.

RESTRICTED DELIVERY: Restricted Delivery directs the delivery only to the addressee or the addressee's authorized agent. This is available for First Class mail, Priority mail, and Package Services that are sent Certified mail, COD, mail insured for more than $50 or Registered mail. This service may be combined with Delivery Confirmation, Return Receipt, Signature Confirmation or special handling.

MONEY ORDER: Provides the safe transmission of money. Available in amounts up to $1,000.

EXPRESS MAIL: Express Mail offers 2nd day services when mail is urgent. The Express Mail fee includes a $500 automatic insurance covering loss, damage. Additional merchandise insurance up to %5,000 per shipment may be purchased for an additional fee; however, additional insurance is void if waiver of the addressee's signature is requested. For International Express Mail shipments, insurance coverage may vary by country and may not be available to some countries. Next-day or second-day delivery is guaranteed or your money back. Unlike most services, Express Mail is delivered to most locations 365 days a year, including Sundays and holidays. A signature proof of delivery is provided upon request.
