Public Information Officer
Leona Long is the public information officer for the College of Rural and Community Development and Interior Alaska Campus at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Her public relations campaigns in rural and Alaska Native communities have earned four Alaska Public Relations Society of America Aurora Awards and a first place Award of Excellence for writing during the time she has worked for UAF.
Her volunteer work includes promoting awareness about Alaska Native subsistence. Leona has donated about 100 hours of her expertise in media relations for the “Rock the Native Vote” concert in Fairbanks, Allakaket Tribe's community meeting protesting the Road to Ambler mining district and Alaska Native leader PJ Simon and his starring role on "Animal Planet's American River Renegades."
Leona has more than a decade of experience in public relations and marketing communications. She was an account supervisor at Miller Geer & Associates (MGA), a Los Angeles area public relations agency, where she began her career as an intern. Her articles have been published in First Alaskans magazine, Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, San Pedro Today, San Pedro Magazine, Coastal Scene Magazine, Vancouver View Magazine, North Valley Magazine and the Inland Empire Business Journal.
