Winter Break Eligibility

To be Eligible for Winter Break Housing you must have a Fall 2017 AND a Spring 2018 Housing Assignment. You must register for Winter Break Housing via the Winter Break Application. All students who do not have a Spring 2018 assignment must check-out of their Fall 2017 assignment and fully move-out by Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 12:00PM (Noon).

Winter Break Cost

The winter break housing is an additional housing charge that will be billed to your student account. If you apply for winter break housing it is a non-refundable housing cost, unless canceled by or before 5PM on November 30, 2017. Only current residents of the Cutler Apartments and the Sustainable Village will be permitted to stay in their room during the break at no additional charge.

Facilities Notices

The winter break period is an optimal time for University Facilities to inspect and repair areas of our residence halls. As always, the Department of Residence Life will provide as much notice as possible if entrance to residence hall rooms is required.

Things to know about Winter Housing

The doors to the MBS lobby will be locked during this time. Winter Break Resident Polar Express card will open the back Skarland door for access to MBS 24/7.

Campus Winter Activities

The cross-country ski trails that run through the area and the nearby sledding hill are open and available for public use. RAs will host actives over break. They will be posted in the halls.

Meal Plans

Meal Plans are not active and campus dining choices are limited. You may switch your dining plan between semesters, by submitting a change form to before the Spring 100% refund deadline (January 27, 2018). Click Here to Learn More.

Snow Removal

If you plan to leave your vehicle on campus over the holiday, be sure to relocate it to the Taku Lot, (located along Taku Drive near Farmers Loop Road) or your car will be towed (at your expense) for snow removal!.

Code of Conduct and Policies

All students residing on campus are expected to abide by the University of Alaska Fairbanks code of conduct, available in the Student HandbookDuring this low-occupancy period, the Department of Residence Life urges all students, as always, to be mindful of their environment and always lock their doors.

Campus Closures During Winter Break

Soft closures of many departments through Winter Break

Most offices at UAF will be closed for Winter Break. We want to remind everyone about the limited operations of campus. The UAF Police and Fire Departments will remain open and the Student Recreation Center, and the UA Museum of the North will have limited hours during sections of winter break. Campus shuttle will also have limited service. Call 474-RIDE (7433) for pick up.
