International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM)
The University of Alaska Fairbanks is excited to be the first Alaskan University to belong to the IAEM Student Chapter.
Since 2008, our Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) undergraduate degree program has grown to over 140 students. The students of our program extend far beyond the Fairbanks, Alaska area. We are proud of such a diversified student base, and to accommodate the needs of our students we offer courses that include both in-person courses at our Fairbanks campus and online courses offered through UAF eLearning and Distance Education. The HSEM program expands on students' technical skills and fosters an environment that allows students to confidently provide administrative and supervisory control and work in leadership and management positions within fire, law enforcement, emergency medical, security, and military career fields. Our degree enables students to further their education, increase their competitive advantage for advancement opportunities and strengthen their operational understanding in the Emergency Management and Homeland Security profession. All of this could not be achieved without our partnerships with FEMA’s Higher Education Program, the Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security University and Agency Partnership Initiative, and most recently, our membership and collaboration with the International Association of Emergency Managers Student Chapter.
