Favorite tradition & why: SpringFest. It is the longest tradition with multiple days of fun.
Why did you join the board:I enjoy planning the events and seeign everything come together
The ultimate ice cream: mint &cookie dough
What do you do for fun: I enjoy haning out with friends and trying new things
Hello! My name is Mathew Carrick, and I am a new and excited member of
the Nanook Traditions Board. I am entering my third year at UAF,
studying a dual major program of mathematics and economics. I was born
in Florida, but consider Alaska my true home. I enjoy baking, history,
the outdoors, dogs (especially my dog, Beelz, featured to the side),
chickens, and rainbows. Besides the Traditions Board, I am president
of the Associated Students of UAF and the Model UN, a Student
Ambassador, and an Orientation Leader. I'm looking forward to another
great year in Fairbanks!
My favorite tradition is SpringFest, because it's a time to enjoy the
Great Alaskan Meltdown and features a little bit of everything.
Major: Anthropology and English
Favorite tradition & why: My favorite tradition would have to be Springfest. Its just such a great way to wrap up the year after our winters, and its a really nice break before finals. Nothing releases stress like mud volleyball and exploding watermelons.
Why did you join the board: I joined the board because we needed someone to represent APO and I thought it would be a great experience and opportunity this year.
The ultimate ice cream: coffee. Always coffee
What do you do for fun: I like to play outside, hike, bike, and hang with friends
LIVE Program Representative
I’m a senior pursuing a double degree in Psychology and French, with a minor in journalism.
Originally from a small town in Arkansas, I grew in Texas and Germany (military brats unite!) I’ve lived in Alaska for about five years and absolutely love it.
I’m always down to getting out and going on new, different, and crazy adventures. I love all things leadership, and am super pumped to be on the board and to have this job.
My favorite tradition is Springfest, because it’s the start of something new and the celebration of the past. Also, it means that school is literally almost over—which is pretty rad.
Student Organization Representative
What do you do for fun: Drive, fish, shoot, hang out, and work on cars.
Residence life Representative
I'm a Junior going towards an Elementary Education Bachelors Degree.
I try to be really involved in campus through being an RA (in Cutler), Nanook Pep Band, Concert Board, and APO.
I was born and raised in Wasilla, Alaska, and grew up fishing, camping, hiking, climbing, swimming, playing soccer and more.
My favorite tradition is definitely Starvation Gulch. It's amazing to see every team work so hard to create these sculptures, especially on Build day. Everyone pulls together to get it done and it is always a great success!

Rural Student Services Representative
Hello! My name is Tayesia Nick and I am from Pilot Station, Alaska. I am a senior this year going for my degree in Rural Development in Land Management. I also work with the National Park Service as a Resources Technician and will continue to do so until I graduate. I am currently involved with the clubs: Native Alaskan Business Leaders (NABL), Natives For Positive Change as Co-Chair (NFPC), Festival of Native Arts as security Co-Chair (FNA), and American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES). A fun fact about myself is my love for science, especially astronomy. One of my favorite Nanook Traditions is Spring Fest, where everyone is comfortable with one another and having a blast! I wish to serve the University of Alaska Fairbanks students as best as I can with my experience.
