Born in Kodiak and raised in Anchorage, Tara has called Fairbanks home since 2009 when she transferred to UAF to complete her undergraduate degree in English. Tara loved UAF so much that she decided to stay at UAF for her master’s degree. During her master’s program, Tara was given the opportunity to teach first-year and second-year composition courses as a teaching assistant, and she soon discovered that she wanted to continue working with students in higher education.
In addition to teaching for the university as a teaching assistant, Tara has worked in the UAF Disability Services Office and as an Adjunct Instructor of Writing at both the Community and Technical College and UAF campuses. Tara is passionate about higher education, writing, equity, teaching, and helping students succeed.
When Tara isn’t in the office, she can usually be found on the ice playing hockey. She lives with her partner (as well as two entirely too energetic border collies) in a dry cabin. Don’t worry - she has promised us that she has a pretty nifty shower set up at home. Tara loves bundling up in the winter and going for walks at a brisk 40 below.
