A :Mount McKinley and Wonder Lake
Ansel Adams, Photograph
Location: First Floor, Student Activities Office
Ansel Adams is an American photographer known for his landscape photographs of the American West, especially Yosemite Park. The Mount McKinley and Wonder Lake photograph was taken during Adams' visit to Alaska in 1947. The print was acquired in 1972 through the efforts of student Howard Ringley. UAF student government (ASUAF) paid $500 for the print. Adams himself donated $250 for the framing. It is one of only four prints of its size (48 x 40) in existence. Fun fact: it wasn't the original photograph that Ringley wanted to buy. The photograph he did want to buy was lost when the box of negatives fell out of Adams' float plane. Adams' assistant wrote to Ringley offering Mount McKinley and Wonder Lake instead.
