The U.S. military is well positioned to begin its journey down the path towards Arctic operational proficiency. Timing matters also and, under the current circumstances, likely to the benefit of the U.S. military. Once national demand is transmitted regarding Arctic security requirements, U.S. military joint and service components can synchronise strategies and operational advancements in collaborative and complimentary approaches, rather than in a competing and/or disjointed manner. The clearest message that can be requires Arctic-specific language in the National Security Strategy. When that happens, the U.S. military will be able to fully define and develop its Arctic operational responsibilities in support of national defence and homeland security.
