Smaller tree than Japanese tree lilac; loose spreading to rounded form; lightly fragrant creamy white flowers, not a true lilac smell, flowers earlier than Japanese tree lilac; often multi-stemmed form; smooth to exfoliating bark; sun; pH 6.0-7.5; resistant to powdery mildew; persistent seed capsules; fall color depends on cultivar.
