Undergraduate Programs

Prospective Undergraduate Students

Welcome, future Nanook! Thank you for your interest in our undergraduate programs here at the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. We offer a Bachelor of Arts in Fisheries, a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Marine Sciences, a Minor in Fisheries, and a Minor in Marine Science. Please feel free to explore our site and reach out to us at the Academic Programs Office at uaf-cfos-academics@alaska.edu if you have any questions.

At CFOS, we emphasize the importance of learning not only in the classroom, but also through hands-on experiences: internships, research in the lab and out in the field, and the opportunity to work directly with fisheries and marine sciences professionals in different communities across Alaska.

We also offer undergraduate students the unique option of studying at other University of Alaska campuses for a portion of their undergraduate degree. This program provides flexibility to students and allows them to take advantage of the diverse opportunities found in Alaska’s coastal and Interior communities.

CFOS has fisheries facilities in both Fairbanks and Juneau. We have students and faculty located in Fairbanks, Juneau, and spread across the state of Alaska, so most of our courses are offered via distance delivery.

Begin your studies at any UA campus, and finish in Fairbanks or Juneau!

Experiential Learning Opportunities

Experiential learning opportunities may be summer jobs or part-time positions and may take place in another city or state. In contrast, independent study and senior thesis experiences tend to be focused on a research project. For a list of currently available  experiential learning opportunities, follow one of the job board links below or contact your faculty advisor, CFOS Experiential Learning Coordinator Brian Crandall, or Faculty Experiential Learning Coordinator Jessica Glass.
