Biography

Rachel resides in Cordova, Alaska where she works for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, as the ASL (age, sex, length) biologist within the division of commercial fisheries. When not meditating on the age of a fish, Rachel enjoys spending time outside with friends, both human and canine alike!

Research Overview

Rachel is currently working on a collaborative project between the Prince William Sound Science Center and Alaska Department of Fish and Game to 1) develop a workflow for high throughput digitization of scale image archives used for age estimation and 2) leverage this digitized archive to investigate the application of machine vision technologies to automate sockeye salmon scale age estimation.
