Nominations are sought for the Marion Frances Boswell Award, the Joel Wiegert Award and the Gray S. Tilly Memorial Award, all of which recognize outstanding UAF graduates each year.

Apply for technology and education funding
The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity is accepting applications from undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty and staff for awards of up to $7,500. Funding is for technology-related equipment and software associated with student-based instruction and research. Read more

The Alternative Spring Break team will host its annual Pre-Valentine’s Day Silent Auction from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Wood Center multilevel lounge. Items range from wine and cheese baskets to oil change certificates. Read more

Art exhibit to display at inspiration source — Antarctica

An international exhibit of artwork called "Beauty to the Core" will meet its inspiration in Antarctica this January. University of Alaska Fairbanks glaciologist Erin Pettit and her team of researchers created the exhibit to raise awareness of scientific studies at WAIS Divide, a research site of the National Science Foundation. Borealis Bistro puts UAF culinary arts students to test

NASA heliophysics director to speak
NASA Director of Heliophysics Steven W. Clarke will speak at the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Monday, Feb. 13, at 3:30 p.m. Clarke will talk about "The Science of Space Weather." He will be in Fairbanks for rocket launches at Poker Flat Research Range. Read more

Two new Extension agents in Fairbanks offer programs
Two new agents with the Cooperative Extension Service in Fairbanks will lead community programs in nutrition, health and gardening. Alaska purchase painting on exhibit

A 19th-century painting on display at the University of Alaska Museum of the North through the end of February depicts the 1867 signing of the treaty to purchase Alaska. It will tour the state to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the event. Read more
