From: Kari Burrell, Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services

UAF is upgrading building addresses to meet national addressing standards and Fairbanks North Star Borough code. The upgrade will provide a number of important benefits, including:

  • The ability for a caller’s location to be immediately identified and all 911 calls to be rapidly and automatically processed
  • Shorter emergency response times by UAF and borough emergency services personnel
  • Location-based emergency notifications
  • Compliance with current and next-generation enhanced 911 standards
  • Conformance to Title 21 of FNSB code
Campus safety is important. We recognize there may be initial expenses and inconveniences as we transition to the new numbering system. The early stages of implementation are underway. New addresses are being verified with the borough and are expected to be finalized soon. Facilities Services is currently developing plans for upgrading street signage and building numbers.

New addresses will be communicated to all units and campus residents beginning Sept. 5. Units will need to update online resources and printed media such as letterhead, fliers and business cards, and will need to provide their updated delivery address to their vendors.

We thank you in advance for your patience as we make this transition.
