This morning, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake north of Anchorage shook Southcentral Alaska.

UAF has locations across the state, including several in Southcentral Alaska. We have been in contact with UAF offices in the affected areas. Our people are safe, and it doesn’t appear that our facilities have sustained major damage, but it will take some time to fully assess.

We have reached out to our colleagues at UAA to offer any assistance we can provide. If your unit has been affected by the earthquake, please report it to your supervisor. If you need assistance, please reach out to local emergency authorities.

I also want to thank the teams at the the Alaska Earthquake Center, Cooperative Extension Service and other UAF units that are providing important and timely information.

If we have additional information regarding this incident and its effects on UAF, it will be posted online at UAF on Alert.

Our thoughts are with those affected by today’s event.
