Daniel M. White, UAF chancellor
Welcome to the start of a new academic year! I hope these first days are going well, and that you are settling into familiar routines or finding new ones. If you are new to UAF, I extend an especially warm welcome to Nanook nation.

Our work is important and dynamic. Whatever each one of us does individually, we all contribute to making UAF a place where we can all thrive, personally and professionally. People do the work of the university, and it is people who ultimately benefit from that work, whether they are students, fellow Alaskans or others we'll never even meet.

Strong relationships within our own departments and throughout the university allow us to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, whatever they may be. UAF has several required trainings, some of them one-time, some annual, such as the Title IX training. We take training seriously at UAF as it is the foundation of a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace.

I look forward to working with all of you this coming year. There is a great deal to do, and we will begin a UAF-wide strategic planning effort this fall. I will share some of my initial goals at convocation on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Until then, I wish you all the best.
