Daniel M. White, UAF chancellor
Dear UAF faculty and staff,

It's time to start thinking about the 2019 Heart Walk on May 11.

As the chairman of the 25th Anniversary Heart Walk, I invite you to join me as we promote healthy living in our community.

I want to encourage each of you to consider participating in this community-building, heart-healthy event that raises awareness of heart risks and raises funds for research. Heart disease and stroke are the leading killers of both men and women in the U.S., and these conditions are largely preventable.

How can we get involved as a campus community or individual?
  1. Lead a team. It's easy and it makes a difference. I am hoping we will have at least one team from every college and institute. Click here to register as a UAF team captain and select Start a Team.
  2. Donate to support a team in your office, department, school, college or institute. Click here to donate to a UAF Heart Walk team. Select the University of Alaska Fairbanks and then the team you wish to donate to.
  3. Sign up to walk on May 11. This year's Heart Walk comes after commencement, so more members of our university community can join the fun.
You can also register as a university walker by selecting Join as Individual.

My office will sponsor UAF Heart Walk T-shirts this year. We’ll be launching a competition for design submissions. Look for details in an upcoming Cornerstone. The design picked will win a $50 Arctic Java coffee card or sweatshirt of your choice from the UAF Bookstore.

Here is the time-sensitive part of this note:
If you agree to be a team leader, you will be invited to the Fairbanks Heart Walk kickoff party. The kickoff party is in the planning process now, and a date and location will be announced in the coming weeks.

Let's step up as leaders for heart health in our community!
