I was saddened to learn that Dr. Michael Krauss died last weekend. Dr. Krauss helped found the Alaska Native Language Center and was awarded professor emeritus status in 2000. He served the university for 40 years, and was renowned internationally for his expertise in linguistics and his work to preserve Alaska’s Indigenous languages. He undertook that work in close collaboration with the many people across Alaska who shared their stories and experiences with him. My condolences go to Dr. Krauss' family, friends and colleagues. If you or someone you know is struggling with this loss, please don’t struggle alone. Employees are eligible for free counseling through the Employee Assistance Program. Please call 1-888-993-7650, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. — Dan White
