UAF logo and background
UAF faculty and staff members,

The University of Alaska Human Resources office recently completed a total compensation study to better understand market competitiveness for salary and benefits. The information below is forwarded on behalf of UA HR.

This is a follow-up to the communication I sent to UAF supervisors last week, as UA HR has scheduled some 30-minute informational webinars on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25. Webinar details are included at the end of this message.

If you or your employees have any questions about the total compensation project, a list of frequently asked questions can be found at https://alaska.edu/classification/compensation-review/.

You may also submit questions to UA HR via a FAQ Google Form.

Compensation study information

As part of the compensation study, market salary data was compiled for staff and faculty members, and executives.

UA HR mailed letters to all employees starting on Monday, June 17. The letters provide each employee with their market comparison as well as the methodology used. To view your information and information for the employees you supervise, visit: https://online.uas.alaska.edu/uamarket.

Data for this compensation study was pulled by UA HR on April 25, 2019 so it may not reflect the most recent information for employees who have changed roles. For part-time employees, annual salaries were adjusted to full-time in order to accurately compare against benchmark salaries.

If there are discrepancies in job title and/or base salary information, please submit corrections via the Compensation Review Google Form. Either the supervisor or the employee may submit the corrections to the form. HR will review and update the information as appropriate.

Some points to keep in mind
  • The best source for accurate information is the statewide website, https://alaska.edu/classification/compensation-review.
  • Questions can be submitted via an FAQ Google Form.
  • UA’s goal is for employees to be paid within 10% of the market median.
  • Salaries will not be reduced as a result of this project.
  • Funding to address any increases will have to be addressed in future budget cycles.
  • Supervisors and department heads should not attempt to independently address market competitiveness issues.
  • UA will be evaluating how to address issues systematically.
  • UAF leadership will work with UA HR to consider the best path forward.
  • We will strive to keep you informed as more information becomes available.
