I was saddened to learn that Joe Kan died June 26. Joe and his wife, Rosalind, have been part of the UAF community since 1972, when Joe joined the Geophysical Institute as an assistant professor of space physics.

Joe was a renowned researcher and a dedicated professor and administrator. He retired from UAF in 2003 and was awarded emeritus status as dean of the Graduate School and professor of physics. My condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues.
