I was saddened to learn that Will Harrison died Friday. Will was a longtime researcher at the Geophysical Institute. He served from 1972 to 1998, when he was awarded emeritus status as a professor of physics.

Will earned his Ph.D. in nuclear physics, but his love of mountain glaciers made him switch fields of study. He went on to become one of the foremost scientists in the field, and was among the earliest to raise concerns about the effect of climate change on glaciers. I want to extend my sincere condolences to Will's family, friends and colleagues.
