Nominations are open for the Brina Kessel Medal for Excellence in Science. Kessel
was a professor for more than 40 years and devoted a lifetime to the study of ornithology,
emphasizing the birds of Arctic and subarctic Alaska.
Lt. Henry Allen and a few tattered comrades traveled from near present-day Cordova
up to what is now Bettles. They then turned around and beat winter to St. Michael,
where they jumped the last boat for San Francisco.
Yelena Mazour-Matusevich will lead a teaching presentation and Q&A at noon Friday,
March 25, via Zoom. The presentation, which was initially planned for March 18, was
rescheduled.
