New ACEP roles for Holdmann, Kasper

Awaiting river breakup on the Yukon

Andy Bassich lives on the south bank of the Yukon River, about 12 miles downstream from Eagle, Alaska, the first community in America along the largest waterway in Alaska. Like all of the few-thousand people who live along the big river in Alaska, Bassich hopes that river ice formed by the cold air of winter will continue to disappear in a mushy fashion, one that does not cause flooding.


Alaskan youth present research at Earth Day symposium

Over 60 Alaskan K-12 students gathered for participation in a research symposium.

On a sunny spring Earth Day in Fairbanks, over 60 K-12 students gathered from across Alaska to participate in a research symposium. The event was part of Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment, a worldwide science and education program.

Cooperative Extension workshops get underway in Southeast

When Sarah Lewis, the Juneau-based home, health and family development agent for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, started planning classes in remote communities in summer 2021, she realized planes were out because she carries so much gear.
