In the early 1990s, I worked with a field research team in Egypt. Among many wonderful
experiences, one of the things I marveled at was the arcane nature of the Egyptian

a consumer perspective, and likely from an economic perspective, the model was painfully
constraining. Unfortunately, in higher education, we still do something quite similar.

Deadlines and reminders
*** UAF’s Fairbanks campuses are currently at “orange” level for COVID-19 precautions,
which requires masking indoors, as well as outdoors when its not possible to stay
6 feet away from other people. Masks will be required and made available at events. ***
On July 16, 2022, callers can dial 988 to connect to the National Suicide Prevention
Lifeline’s highly trained call center professionals. Those in Alaska who dial from
a 907 area code will connect to Careline Alaska, where crisis counselors can provide
confidential support 24 hours, 7 days a week.
UAF is reviewing how we onboard new and returning employees to improve the process
across our campuses. To do this, we are asking staff hired within the last five years
(2018 through June of 2022) to provide feedback by completing a brief anonymous survey.
It should take about 5-10 minutes to complete.
