Friday Focus: Happy anniversary, NARL!

In a rare week of blue-bird days in Utqiagvik, I had the honor and pleasure to participate in the 75th anniversary celebration for the Naval Arctic Research Laboratory (NARL). Hosted by Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation (UIC) this celebration brought together North Slope Borough community members, for profit and not-for-profit corporations, and both past and present Arctic researchers, including many of us from University of Alaska Fairbanks.


UAF police, NAMI Fairbanks host crisis intervention training

NAMI Fairbanks and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Police Department have partnered to host crisis intervention training on the UAF Troth Yeddha Campus this week.

LPs, records, CDs for sale in UAF Music Department

The LP/record genres available for purchase include Dixieland, jazz, blues, Christmas, music theater, big band and classical. CD music is mostly classical, but other genres are also available. Those interested can call 907-474-5291 or email the UAF Music Department to schedule an appointment.


FAQs on the employee tuition waiver program

Regular benefit eligible employees actively employed on or before the first day of the term qualify for a tuition waiver, as well as spouses, Financially Interdependent Partners (FIP)s, and dependent children (under the age of 24 as of the first day of the term) of eligible employees. Part time adjunct faculty with banked credits may also redeem credits toward their tuition balance. Tuition waivers only cover tuition. You are responsible for paying all fees by the payment deadline. Submit a UA Tuition Waiver Request.

Memorial service for Joseph E. Usibelli

Members of the public and University of Alaska Fairbanks are invited to a memorial service for UAF alumnus, philanthropist and miner Joseph E. Usibelli on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Davis Concert Hall. A reception will follow the program. Free parking is available at the Taku Lot with shuttle service from the lot starting at 12:30 p.m. and returning after the program and reception. The memorial service will also be live streamed for those unable to attend.

Geophysical Institute announces Schaible fellowship recipients

One student from Alaska and one from Switzerland have been selected as this year's recipients of a Geophysical Institute Schaible Fellowship. Amy Jenson of Alaska and Annegret Pohle of Switzerland are this year’s recipients of two-year fellowships. The fellowships begin with the 2022-2023 academic year. This is the second year of the fellowship program that carries the name of Grace Berg Schaible, one of the University of Alaska system’s strongest private financial supporters. She was also a former Alaska attorney general and University of Alaska Fairbanks graduate.
