Friday Focus: Intergenerational learning

The last few weeks UAF has been abuzz with activity. We welcomed hundreds of new and returning students and their families on our campuses. We also extended a rich 2-day orientation for nearly 60 new faculty members! Thanks to the expanded faculty development team for personally reaching out to every new faculty member and offering both in-person and remote cohort-building opportunities geared towards faculty success.

IAB Life Sciences Seminar: "Emperor Penguins and the Impact of Climate Change"

The IAB Life Sciences Seminars return through a combined format, in-person and via Zoom. Stephanie Jenouvrier Ph.D. will present "Emperor Penguins and the Impact of Climate Change" in the Murie Auditorium and via Zoom at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9. Please join me Thursday, Sept. 29 at 1:15 p.m. in the Davis Concert Hall for 2022 Convocation. Details about the scavenger hunt leading up to Convocation, which will include prizes, will be in the Cornerstone next week. I also invite you to recognize your colleagues via this form. A selection of shout-outs will be included in my remarks and on the screens in the Great Hall during the ice cream social after Convocation.


Presentation to discuss resurrecting the woolly mammoth

Technology startup company Colossus Biosciences and national organization The Explorer's Club will host a presentation about the company's work toward resurrecting the woolly mammoth. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place Monday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. in the engineering building atrium and Schaible Auditorium.

Minnie Lucy Naylor, an academic advisor with University of Alaska Fairbanks Rural Student Services, was recognized by the UA Board of Regents for her personal dedication to student success, friendly and caring nature, and dedication to UAF and its students. Naylor was among four outstanding staff members recognized with the “Staff Make Students Count” award that recognizes staff who have made a difference in the lives of students. Each received a plaque, $1000, and two Alaska Airlines vouchers.
