The high cost of textbooks and course materials is one factor that can influence student
success. Open Educational Resources, or OER, are free-to-access textbooks and other
course materials that instructors can use in their courses to provide more equitable
learning opportunities for students.

Staff Council will be holding elections in October for odd-numbered units and at-large
seats. This is a total of 16 seats! Representatives will be elected to two-year terms
starting in January 2023. Visit the Staff Council Unit Finder tool to verify which unit you belong to (UA network
or VPN required). Those in odd-numbered units are welcome to nominate themselves or
a colleague to serve a two-year term representing that unit. You may also nominate
a staff member from any unit to an at-large position. Contact the Staff Council Elections
Committee at uaf-sc-elections@alaska.edu or uaf-staff-council@alaska.edu for more information.
