Friday Focus: Case closure a reminder to remain vigilant

The Sophie Sergie murder case finally concluded this week with the sentencing of Steven Downs. The case, while now closed, will always be part of our history and a reminder that UAF must remain vigilant. Occasionally when we address a disciplinary issue for misconduct at UAF, I am reminded that "we are a reflection of society" and our society is tragically affected by domestic violence, assault and discrimination. That said, we are also a powerful reflection of the good in our society and we have the ability to positively affect our future and the future of all who come here.

Last call! Alaska INBRE carryover award opportunity

The deadline to apply Sept. 30, 2022! This funding opportunity is to join in an application to the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for use of carryover funds from our primary award for one-time expenditures toward meeting goals not eligible for funding through existing mechanisms within our cores.

Georgeson Botanical Garden construction aims to improve accessibility, layout

A major construction project at the Georgeson Botanical Garden is updating the main pedestrian corridor to improve accessibility, strengthening the linear nature of the garden and visually unifying it. Nodes will improve navigation, interpretation and resting spaces.
