Glaciers worldwide are withering. Half of them will disappear by the end of this century, and much of the lost ice will vanish from mountains in Alaska, scientists say.


Dr. Angayuqaq Oscar Kawagley was a Yupiaq scholar who served 25 years as faculty with the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The AOK Award for Contributions to Native Ways of Knowing is presented annually to recognize and encourage Indigenous scholars who have made exemplary contributions to our understanding of Indigenous knowledge systems and Native ways of knowing in Alaska. The deadline for nominations is March 1, 2023.


Sign up for Responsible Conduct of Research training now

Responsible Conduct of Research training will be offered Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 2-5 p.m. via Zoom. The training is brought to you by the Office of Research Integrity. This particular workshop fulfills the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health requirements for formal RCR instruction. This is the only formal RCR training at UAF this semester.

UAF Chess Team surprises competition at 2023 Pan-American Chess Tournament

The UAF Chess Club organized a team of seven individuals to participate in the Pan-American Chess Tournament in Seattle. This tournament had more than 80 teams participating, with over 360 college students. The UAF team participated in the Under-1800 ranked category, where they won the "Team Surprise Upset" award, and one of the UAF players also walked away with the Individual "Surprise Upset" award.
