Please join me in recognizing the contributions of staff at this year’s longevity and awards ceremony from 10-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 5, in Schaible Auditorium. We will recognize the recipients of a number of awards, including the Chancellor's Cornerstone Award winner. I encourage all employees to take advantage of the professional and team building activities offered (in-person and online), or join your colleagues for lunch at the Wood Center. Employees need to sign up for sessions and meals in advance.


Jessica GlassAFSC Seminar: Long Live the Kingfish

The Alaska Fisheries Science Center will host a virtual seminar featuring Jessica Glass, an assistant professor at UAF’s College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. Glass will present “Long Live the Kingfish: Integrating Genomic Patterns and Ecological Processes to Understand Evolution in the Oceans.” Glass will discuss how the field of genomics has revolutionized evolutionary biology and our ability to detect linkages between genes, behavior and the environment. Join online or by phone: 415-527-5035, access code 2760 445 8161.

Overview of working with Indigenous People by Indigenous Researchers

Join LaVerne Demientieff and Agatha John-Shields on Wednesday, April 5 from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom for a discussion of their work and frameworks for working with Indigenous people in research programs. This is an orientation for UAF faculty to hear from Indigenous researchers about their research journey. Please reserve your seat.

French officials visit UAF

San Francisco-based Consul General of France Frédéric Jung visited Fairbanks March 24-25 for meetings with Chancellor Dan White, City of Fairbanks Mayor David Pruhs, several UAF units and the Fairbanks French-speaking community. Jung’s team included Pascal Confavreux from the French Embassy in Washington, D.C.; Romane Guéchot, press officer from the French Consulate in San Francisco; Sonia Lelarge, honorary French consul in Anchorage.
