Vice Chancellor Charlene Stern has appointed Jessica Black as associate vice chancellor
for rural, community and Native education effective March 26, 2023. Black has a demonstrated record of excellence in research and scholarly activities,
which make her an ideal candidate for the associate vice chancellor position for RCNE.
In this capacity, Black will help to support the operations of the unit, which includes
two colleges and five rural campuses, oversee the build out of research capacity given
the recent addition of the Center for One Health Research to CRCD, and serve as a
lead for the Alaska Native Success Initiative at UAF.
Four outstanding staff members have been honored as Chancellor’s Cornerstone Award
winners for 2023 and will receive their awards during Staff Recognition and Development
Day on April 5 at the longevity and Cornerstone awards ceremony from 10-11:30 a.m.
in the Schaible Auditorium. The Chancellor’s Cornerstone Award recognizes UAF staff for sustained outstanding
contributions toward accomplishing and enhancing the UAF mission and strategic plan.
The University of Alaska Museum of the North will focus on feathers during family
programs in April. These programs are included with admission and free for members. Visit their website for more info.
