Pingos are perennially present ice-cored hills found in periglacial environments on
Earth, particularly within the western Arctic region of North America. In his Zoom-only Geoscience Seminar presentation on Friday, April 21 from 11:45 a.m.
to 12:45 p.m., Kynan Hughson, assistant professor of Geological Sciences at UAA, will
explore the discovery and geomorphology of potential pingo analogs on the dwarf planet
Ceres using imaging results from NASA’s Dawn mission.
UAF professors Sveta Yamin-Pasternak and Igor Pasternak will present "Understanding
the Unthinkable: Applying Anthropology of Art in the Era of Russian Fascism," on Friday, April 21 from 3-4 p.m. in Bunnell Rm 302 as part of the UAF Department of Anthropology Colloquium Series.
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, both professors have been diversely involved as
educators and researchers who have worked in Ukraine, as well as with the Ukrainian
immigrant community in Alaska, Ukrainian refugees in Europe and the U.S., and Indigenous
communities in the Russian Arctic that are disproportionately affected by Putin's
military draft. This event is available in-person only. It is free and open to the
public.
