Friday Focus: ORCA - Your collaborative ally

As I look out across the Alaskan landscape, there's no denying a change of season is happening. In this moment, I contemplate the concept of change itself. Change often ushers in a wave of emotions: fear of the unknown, moments of doubt, anticipation for what lies ahead, and sometimes, a sense of loss for what once was. Typically, it's a blend of these emotions and thoughts that color our perception of change. At the Office of Rights, Compliance, and Accountability, we are steadfast in our commitment to embracing change and understanding its implications for our team and the broader campus community. Interior growing season increasing

If Interior Alaskans have noticed that summer seems to linger long enough to ripen their tomatoes and winter arrives more slowly, they’re not imagining things. The trend toward a longer growing season means it's now possible to grow crops that were once marginal in Interior Alaska. Read more on the changing temperature trend.

Shine a Light series

Learn about efforts to build a local LGBTQA+ history collection of written materials and oral stories about life in the Interior through the lived experiences of LGBTQ and allies via Zoom on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from noon to 1 p.m. Read for more details and registration information.

UAF Bookstore to begin new partnership

UAF has begun a new partnership with Barnes & Noble College to operate the UAF Bookstore. The Bookstore will be closed from Oct. 30 to Nov. 8 to transfer from Follett Higher Education. To prepare for the transition, Follett currently has select items discounted 20-75%. Read more about the transition.

Safely preserve foods via online course

Learn to safely preserve healthy foods at home in a five-week series of online classes, beginning Jan. 7. The class is available statewide. Learn more about the class and get registration information.
