A community gathering under the full moon on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus is planned to honor three scientists who were killed in a helicopter crash in July on Alaska's North Slope. Read more on the gathering and location.

Spark ideas, impact opportunity via Center ICE seed funding

We’re looking for researchers whose interests and projects overlap with our invitation request for proposal themes and focuses. Center ICE is supporting up to five awards of $15,000 each for research projects focused on impact. All awardees also participate in the I-Corps Program and receive $4,500 in travel funding to support your stakeholder discovery. Nov. 27 is the deadline to apply. Learn more about the program.


Webinar: 2023 Wildfire Season in the North

In 2023, Canada experienced the worst wildfire season on record,while farther west, Alaska saw a near complete absence of wildfire until late July, only to be followed by a late season surge. This presentation on Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. to noon will review and contrast the Alaskan and Canadian fire seasons and discuss what lessons we can learn from the tale of two extremes. INE director search presentation

Nicole Misarti, a candidate to serve as the director of the UAF Institute of Northern Engineering, will speak during a session on Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 1 – 2 p.m. in the BP Design Theater (Rm 401A of the Usibelli Building) where she will share her vision and experience. Read more about Misarti.

Introducing graduate student fellowships

For graduate students interested in innovation, Center ICE supports two types of fellowships and both are recruiting for the spring semester. To apply, students need to answer some questions about their motivations and current research, and provide a support letter from their advisor. To learn more about both programs and apply, visit the RISE-UP website. Applications close on Nov. 28.
