UAF study tracks traveling population wave in Canada lynx

A new study by researchers at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Institute of Arctic Biology provides compelling evidence that Canada lynx populations in Interior Alaska experience a "traveling population wave" affecting their reproduction, movement and survival. This discovery could help wildlife managers make better-informed decisions when managing one of the boreal forest's keystone predators. Read more about the study.


Evening aurora walk

Meet at the warming hut on West Ridge for an evening walk on Oct. 2 from 9-10 p.m. in hopes of catching the northern lights. This is a great chance to get to know the trails before the start of ski season. Bring a headlamp if you have one. Extras will be available for loan as well. Group cap 15. SoBear Lounge improv night: A Shot of Reality

A Shot of Reality is an improv/ comedy-alcohol awareness show that was created out of serious, painstaking research, but performed by two professional comedians who make the topic engaging. The show has been performed at universities and comedy clubs all over the United States and comes to UAF on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 6-7:30 p.m., at Hess Recreation in the MBS Complex. Science talk, film screening at museum

Spend an evening at the UA Museum of the North on Oct. 4 from 6-9 p.m. for an Alaska and France Science Talk. This free event includes a gathering buffet; a panel discussion based on holistic environmental research, where Indigenous knowledge and emerging technologies meet; and a film screening of "On the tip of the tongue" by Vincent Bonnay.
