June 17, 2022
Dear UAF faculty and staff,
This weekend, our nation will celebrate Juneteenth, a federal holiday that commemorates
June 19, 1865, when the last of the enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, were
freed, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation and nearly nine decades after our nation’s founding. It is important that we have
this historical awareness as we continue to focus on growing and embracing a culture
of respect, diversity, inclusion and caring at UAF.
I encourage you to reflect, celebrate and to explore the UAF Share, Learn, Grow page to learn about ways to celebrate Juneteenth and engage in growing a more inclusive
and caring community.
Thanks for choosing UAF.
