Dear students, faculty and staff,
We are writing to share the news regarding three changes that will modernize UAF’s
organizational structure and enhance support for both faculty and students.
Establishment of the Center for Teaching and Learning We are delighted to announce the establishment of the Center for Teaching and Learning
at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. This move reinforces our commitment to educational
excellence by aligning us with industry best practices and our R1 peers, strategically
leveraging existing resources to expand faculty development opportunities, and supporting
instructional innovation.
The CTL will play a pivotal role in achieving the goals outlined in our 2027 Strategic
Plan. By fostering faculty excellence and enriching educational standards, we will
strengthen UAF's reputation as a leading institution. We aim to make the most of our
current assets to realize these objectives. This change requires no additional funding
or resources and creates no new administrative position.
CTL will house eCampus and maintain the eCampus brand name.
Transfer of Honors College to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
and Enrollment Management To streamline student engagement services and foster closer alignment between programs,
we are transferring the operations of the UAF Honors College, including the Climate
Scholars Program, to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment
Management. This move will facilitate a more cohesive approach to supporting our exceptional
students.
Along with the transfer, is a dedicated position to focus on creating more transformative
experiences for students at UAF. The position, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student
Experience, will oversee the Honors College and the Climate Scholars Program. The
AVCSE is not a new executive position but rather a transfer of an existing one.
Creation of the Office of Dual Enrollment We are pleased to greenlight the establishment of the Office of Dual Enrollment at
UAF that will be situated under the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment
Management. The ODE will spearhead the implementation of our dual enrollment strategies,
fostering collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders such as K-12
school districts, government entities, UAA, UAS and state education departments. The
ODE will be instrumental in promoting and expanding UAF's dual enrollment programs,
playing a vital role in supporting aspiring students from different backgrounds.
To support the successful functioning of this office, we are creating the position
of Director of Dual Enrollment to drive our dual enrollment initiatives forward. In
addition, we are updating the reporting structure, with the North Star College dual
enrollment advisor and program coordinator now reporting to the newly established
director.
These three changes underscore our commitment to growth, excellence and creating a
supportive environment for both faculty and students. With your support and active
engagement, we are confident that these initiatives will elevate our university's
standing and enhance the overall educational experience.
Thank you for being a part of this transformative journey. We are eager to witness
the positive impact these changes will have on our community.
Sincerely,
Provost Prakash Vice Chancellor Guthrie
