Dear UAF students, faculty and staff,
I am sad to share that Dr. Jacques Philip, longtime research faculty at UAF Center
for Alaska Native Health Research passed away earlier last week. I offer my condolences
to Philip’s friends, family and colleagues. He will be greatly missed by many in our
community.
Philip joined CANHR in 2008 as biomedical informatics lead, developing and managing
CANHR’s participant database. In 2019, Philip became a research assistant professor
and focused his research on social determinants of health in Alaska Native communities.
Prior to joining UAF, Philip spent over twenty years as a competitive musher and continued
to maintain a kennel in Nenana. He competed in nine Iditarods and many other distance
and sprint races during his mushing career.
If you or someone you know is struggling with this loss, please don’t struggle alone.
Free help is available.
