Week 11 - ASUAF election week
Welcome to Week 11 of the spring semester, 2024!
You are doing amazing and, wow, what an incredible weekend we just had here in the
interior of Alaska. I went for a long walk around our Troth Yeddha’ campus yesterday
and it was gorgeous. It was so warm and bright. The winter’s accumulation of snow
was melting like crazy everywhere and people were out and enjoying the long-lost sun.
This was the definitive end of winter and the beginning of spring. My car thermometer
said it was 61 degrees! Next weekend doesn’t look to be quite so warm in the forecast—probably
a good thing as this is unseasonably warm—but it's guaranteed that warmer, brighter,
beautiful days are ahead of us. Are you ready?
Now is the time to keep up the pace with your studies. It will only get harder to
focus as the distractions will only multiply with each brighter, warmer day. It is
coming. There are only a handful of weeks left in the term and only five weeks from
this coming Saturday to commencement. Hang in there. Finish strong. You got this!
I’m sending out my weekly email this week on a Monday as I wanted to make sure you
know about this evening’s ASUAF candidate forum. From the ASUAF elections website:
“Elections play a vital role for the student body by ensuring representation, empowering
student voices, promoting active involvement, fostering responsibility, nurturing
leadership abilities, cultivating a sense of community, impacting decision-making,
honing diverse skills, facilitating connections, and providing a structured avenue
for driving positive changes.”
These elections are important. Your representatives will be selected based on your
vote. Grab a friend, stop by or tune into the forum this evening.

Have a great 11th week of classes! You are doing great; the end is in sight! Keep
up the good work. Let me know when you see things we can do better. As always, I’m
at obguthrie@alaska.edu.
