Happy Holidays from the chancellor
As we approach the end of the year, I want to take the opportunity to thank all of you for being a part of this university. Whatever your role at UAF — as student, staff or faculty — your contributions keep us strong.

Throughout 2017 we have celebrated 100 years of teaching, research and service in Alaska. The Sparktacular fireworks event on New Year’s Eve will conclude our centennial year, but it will also mark the beginning of a new century for UAF.

This is a busy time of year, with finals and end-of-semester deadlines. For a number of departments, that includes winding down operations for the winter holiday closure. Many of us are preparing for holiday celebrations or vacation travel. Whatever your plans, I wish you good cheer, and I hope you take time to relax and reconnect with friends and family.

Although I have been at the university for many years, serving as chancellor has given me a new appreciation for the institution, especially its people. I enjoyed seeing many of you at the Holiday Gathering last week, and I look forward to seeing many more of you in 2018.

— Daniel M. White, chancellor
