Regents pass resolution supporting college scholarships and grants
On April 13, 2017, the University of Alaska Board of Regents heard an assessment from UA President Jim Johnsen and chancellors on contingency plans should the university receive budget cuts from the Alaska Legislature. Regents unanimously passed a resolution in support of the Alaska Higher Education Investment Fund, the Alaska Performance Scholarship and the Alaska Education Grant. Read more

Prahlad, Sanders featured at Permafrost Book Prize Reading
The annual Permafrost Book Prize Reading will feature authors Anand Prahlad and Scott Russell Sanders at 7 p.m. Friday, April 14, in the University of Alaska Museum of the North auditorium. Prahlad won the 2016 Permafrost Book Prize offered by Permafrost, the UAF literary journal. Sanders judged the entries. Read more

'Feels Good' film will show during Thaw Out Film Festival
A short film developed in part by UAF faculty and students will be shown in the Hess Recreation Center on April 15 as a part of the Thaw Out Film Festival hosted by the UAF Film Club. The festival starts at 7 p.m. “Feels Good,” was written and directed by Andrew Okpeaha MacLean of Barrow, Alaska. Maya Salganek, UAF assistant professor of film and media arts, served as executive producer, and UAF students in the Film Reel Alaska Mentoring Experience program worked as crew. Read more

Nanooks swimmer Kinworthy prepping for Miss Alaska competition
Alaska Nanooks swimmer Sierra Kinworthy may be temporarily trading in her swim cap for a crown — but she’s going to hold on to the swimsuit. The Wasilla native is preparing for one of her biggest competitions yet, only this time, it’s not in a pool. With the same drive, focus and work ethic she uses when approaching a collegiate swim meet, Kinworthy hopes to capture the title of Miss Alaska 2017 in Anchorage on June 8. Read more

Heads-up: No rehearsal for graduation
The Fairbanks campus' 95th graduation ceremony will be held at the Carlson Center on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 1:20 p.m. There will be no rehearsal for the ceremony, so participants are encouraged to ask their questions early. Read more

Since there will be no rehearsal for Commencement, it's important to know who's coming in advance. If you've applied to graduate and plan to participate in the ceremony on May 6, click here. The deadline to RSVP is April 21.

Disability information
Service dogs are welcome to the Carlson Center for the 2017 UAF commencement. However, Emotional Support or Assistance Animals are not allowed inside the facility. Service animals are highly trained and must be providing a service during the event.
