I regret to inform you there was an apparent suicide on the Fairbanks campus earlier today. We are unable to share the person’s name because the family has not yet been notified. On behalf of the campus community, I extend my deepest sympathy to the family and friends.

For anyone struggling with this incident, UAF has counseling resources for students and employees. Please — reach out and ask for help.


For students who need mental health care immediately, call 474-7043 and follow the instructions to connect to services. Grief counselors will be available Monday, July 23, from 10 a.m.-noon in Eielson 111. The Student Health and Counseling Center will also have counselors available Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. You can find more information at https://www.uaf.edu/chc/counseling-services-1/.

Employees have access to free counseling through our Employee Assistance Program. Please call 1-866-465-8934, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
