I was saddened to learn that Burns Cooper died Saturday. Burns and his wife, Sandra Boatwright, have been longtime and valued members of the UAF community.

Burns began teaching at UAF in 1990. He taught a wide variety of classes in literature and linguistics, and served as the chair of the English Department, chair of the Linguistics Program, interim chair of the Foreign Languages Department and interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts. He was highly regarded by students and faculty, and I extend my sincere condolences to Sandra and his family, friends and colleagues.
